Older Adult Protective Services
About Older Adult Protective Services
Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, Inc., takes their role of protecting at-risk older adults in the community extremely serious. The trained staff investigate reports of physical, emotional, or financial abuse as well as exploitation, neglect, or abandonment. This program provides assistance to older persons who are seriously impaired, and because of mental and/or physical dysfunction, are unable to carry out the activities of daily living and to protect themselves from neglect or hazardous situations.
Common signs and symptoms of abuse may include:
Isolation
Weight Loss
Bruises or Broken Bones
Increased Confusion
Unusual Withdrawals From Any Financial Institution
Signing Over One's Home To Another
Twenty-four hour, on-call staff members provide emergency service in situations of actual or threatened abuse and are trained to detect, reduce, and eliminate abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment of the elderly.
