The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is designed to provide an advocacy system to protect and enhance the health, safety, welfare, and rights of older individuals receiving long-term care in facilities, such as nursing homes, personal care homes, domiciliary homes, and adult day care centers.
This is accomplished by investigating and seeking local solutions to complaints of residents and their families. Complaints can include medication errors, missing belongings, or concerns regarding visitation. Ombudsmen also educate older consumers and the public about residents’ rights and other relevant issues. The Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Resident (PEER) program is a training developed to empower individuals living in long term care settings to self-advocate for themselves and their fellow residents.
For more information about the Ombudsman Program or how to become an Ombudsman volunteer please call 724-662-6222 or email ombudsman@mercercountyaging.org
